Greetings Brethren,
Come on out this Tuesday for dinner and to socialize and catch up with your fellow Brothers in the Lodge. If you are feeling lucky, head on up to the parlor for a game of Euchre or to the top floor for a game of pool. We currently have no degree work scheduled and only have 2 in the system working on their Fellow Craft proficiency. Now is a great time to bring a friend or coworker to the Lodge to introduce them to Masonry. Also after the announcements, this having been the 20th Anniversary of the attack on our country, I would like to have Brothers tell their stories as to where they were when they found out the news, how did they find out, etc. In reading through the timeline of events I was able to reflect back on that day and almost relive that horrific morning.
We have a number of other important upcoming events during this last part of the year and the first of those is our Community Day/Fish Fry on Friday, Sept 24th and Sat Sept 25th. This event can only succeed with the help of our Brethren. Without the Brothers coming out to help work the event it makes it very difficult to pull off. Even if you can only work a few hours it would be a tremendous help and as an added benefit, those who come to work the fish fry also receive a free meal for their services. The primary responsibility of the Lodge Brothers is the outside tent/drive-thru service as well as running the fryers so you will be outside getting plenty of fresh air and on Saturday you will get to enjoy the live music while you work. Also, as in the past, we need donations of pop/soda. Please consider picking up a 12-pack or case of pop and bring it by the Lodge on a Tuesday evening. We also need to borrow some large coolers if anyone has one or more to lend to the Lodge for this event. Please ensure your name is somewhere on the cooler so we can get it back to you. See the end of this newsletter for a message from our Community Day Chairman for further information on this event.
As everyone will recall, this year’s Master Mason class is dedicated to the memory of WB Mark Griffin. The rocks glasses commissioned to honor the memory of WB Mark Griffin are in and can be purchased from your officers. These glasses look incredible and are American made! The price for a single glass will be $10.00, two for $18.00 and a set of 4 will be $35.00. Make sure to get your glass(es) early to remember the life of such a dedicated Mason and Veteran.

I don’t think much really needs said here. We all have seen how this country came together as one UNITED nation during that terrible time. We can accomplish great things when we learn to remove the hate from our lives.

If anyone is planning to travel or visit another Lodge or has been asked to come assist with a degree, please reach out to me and let me know so we can get a few more Brothers to go and make a visit out of it. Below is the travel opportunities site I go to. If you see anything there that interests you make sure to let me know. This is also a great opportunity for Mentors to take their mentees to see some extra degree work to aid in their learning.
We are sitting at 10 different Lodges visited for a total of 590 round trip miles. We have completed the requirements for both of the Grand Lodge Travel Awards. That doesn’t mean we are going to stop traveling as I would like to see us go for some of the many traveling implements in the area and bring them home to Millersville. We will have a bit more upcoming travel soon as we will once again be going dark during July and August, however, we will need to keep our ritual game strong by traveling around and watching and being a part of degrees at other Lodges.

MESSAGE FROM COMMUNITY DAY CHAIRMAN
Hello Brethren:
It won’t be long and our yearly fundraiser will be here, September 24 and 25. The Millersville Community Day Festival plans are moving along very well. Here are some of the highlights:
- We have sent a brochure about the event to all the business in the area requesting their sponsorship. Members have been encouraged to solicit sponsors as able.
- The Brothers and Eastern Star Sisters in our Lodge are really stepping up to staff the needed roles. On Saturday, we will need help with preparing and transporting food, taking orders, assisting with parking, promoting Masonry through working at our table or giving tours, and assisting with vendors. Please consider taking a role in these activities.
- Randy Snyder has volunteered to oversee the food production activities in the tent. If you can help there, please contact him at rls3108@yahoo.com.
- Registrations from vendors for the market are coming in but we need more. If you know of someone who would like to participate in our market, please have them connect with me at info@millersvillelodge.org.
- Entertainment – We will have two professional classic rock bands to provide entertainment throughout the day (six hours or so). Hewitt and Fink are legendary musicians from the Madison IN music scene. Darryl Hewitt is also a Masonic Brother. Wildhart is a very popular local band and plays professionally in the area. If you like classic rock and blues music, you will be in for a real treat.
- Plan to have a supervised bouncy house for the kids. Charles Moore is working on this. Need someone to help here with supervision on the day of. If you know of anyone that does face painting, please have them contact me at the above email address.
- May have a magician that will have a booth.
- Steve Tipton created the Event Flyer for use on social media. Please let us know if you need a copy of this flyer for sharing on social media.
- The Millersville at Fall Creek Valley neighborhood organization will be posting this flyer in their monthly newsletters prior to the event. They will also be there contributing to the open market and are inviting other community organizations to participate as well.
- We will be erecting a banner in front of our building well in advance to advertise the event.
- An event was created for both Millersville pages on Facebook and will be advertised on Nextdoor as well. Please assist us in this effort and forward these event to your friends. The Indiana Grand Lodge has contacted us and they would like to cohost this event. This will allow our FB event to be posted on their page as well. The GL marketing rep has been very helpful!
- Donations as little as $50 to help cover the cost of this event can be made at the following website address: https://millersvillelodge.org/sponsor/. Please contribute if you are able.
The goal for this event is to accomplish several things for our lodge:
- Grow our lodge – By reaching out to the community in this way, this event will make Millersville Lodge a destination point for many people in the community on one day of the year. Hopefully, by visiting with us on this day and learning more about Masonry, they will also join us for further fellowship permanently.
- Raise funds for the Lodge – If we grow our lodge, we will raise funds that way, in addition to sponsorships from our friends and vendors in the market. Hope we sell a ton of food too. The event is free but we will have donation boxes situated throughout the grounds.
- Build relationships within our community, and
- Have great fun and fellowship as Brothers and Sisters.
So, we are looking forward to a very productive weekend and a lot of fun. Hopefully the success of this event will shape the fundraising efforts of our Lodge for years to come in a positive way and enhance the relationship with our Community.

Greetings Brethren,
I hope everyone has had a safe and enjoyable summer. I know with COVID it may have made vacation planning a bit challenging still or have left you being a bit more creative in your plans in order to keep yourself and your family as safe as possible. I apologize for the lateness of this newsletter. I meant to get to it while I was at the lake over the weekend but when I went to transfer the newsletter folder from my data stick to my laptop I inadvertently did the copy/transfer in the wrong direction and transferred the empty folder from my laptop to the data stick and wrote over all my files. I had to wait until I got home and back to my desktop computer in order to get this taken care of. The time has come for us as a Lodge to get back to work as we enter the back half of the year. Coming up this Tuesday, Sep. 7th is our monthly Stated Meeting. This has turned out to be a very short meeting so it is a perfect night to come to Lodge and re-connect with your Brothers, enjoy a good meal and not be out until late. I can say with almost certainty that we will be done before 8:00pm.
See the end of this newsletter for a message from our Community Day Chairman for further information on this event.
Coming up this Saturday, our Eastern Star is back at it with their monthly breakfast which supports their ICAN project. This is normally held the 1st Saturday of the month but with the Holiday this past week they pushed it to Sep. 11th this month. This is an all you can eat breakfast for an $8 donation. Come on out an enjoy breakfast and fellowship from 8:30am until 10:30 am while helping to support the ladies of our Eastern Star.
The following day, Sep. 12th you can head on down to Franklin, Indiana for the 73rd Annual Compass Park Indiana Masonic Home Festival. The festival runs from 10:00am until 4:00pm and will have a variety of activities and entertainment for young and old alike. There will also of course be food for purchase as well as craft vendors, entertainment acts and a parade. Come on out and show some support for our Masonic Home. You never know, some of us may end up being residents there some day in the future.
As everyone will recall, this year’s Master Mason class is dedicated to the memory of WB Mark Griffin. The rocks glasses commissioned to honor the memory of WB Mark Griffin are in and can be purchased from your officers. These glasses look incredible and are American made! Our focus should always be to take good men and make them better. None of us knows what the future may hold but even if we did we should stay focused on the present. Your Lodge needs your help to bring in good men that we can bring to Masonic Light and make them better men. I know we all have friends, coworkers, family members or acquaintances that we know who are not Masons but would indeed make a great addition to our Fraternity. Invite them to join us for a dinner some evening or better yet invite them to our upcoming Community Day/Fish Fry.

Dear Brethren,
Coming up this Tuesday is our August Stated Meeting which will be our only Lodge meeting during the month of August as we are still dark until September. We have had a few officers step down and will be installing 2 new officers to the line and moving a current officer up to a new position. The theme for the August Stated Meeting is Sports Theme night so dig around for your favorite sports jersey or shirts and come on out to Lodge for some fellowship. As an added treat, along with the spaghetti dinner, your Wardens will be providing pie for dessert. Stated Meetings have been very short so this is a good opportunity to come on out to Lodge and not have to worry about being out after dark. I can promise you will be on your way back home before the sun goes down.
As you have read previous, our dining room is going through some renovations to repair the crumbling plaster on the outside walls and to give the whole room a fresh new coat of paint. Three of the 4 walls are complete and the last will be finished up in the days following our Stated Meeting. A special thank you to our Junior Warden, Charles Moore, and to our newest transfer to Millersville, WB Harley Cardwell, for leading the charge on this project and putting in so much of their time to see this project completed. We also want to thank the other volunteers who showed up to put in a few hours of painting or to clean the dining room so we could use it this Tuesday for dinner. Everyone who has helped is greatly appreciated.
A few other notes on our being dark after this meeting, there will also not be any Eastern Star Saturday breakfasts during July and August. Those will resume the second Saturday of September (Due to Labor Day it was moved from the 1st to 2nd Saturday in Sept). Also, even though we are dark we still will have some activities that will spring up so keep an eye on your email for opportunities to get together with your Brothers during the summer at events outside of the Lodge.
As you all know, we were not able to have our Annual Fish Fry last year. WB Ron was working to revamp the Fish Fry and make it a Community Day Event. We are attempting to give that another shot again this year. WB Ron is the Chairmen for this event and he is in need of some extra help to make this a successful event. Attached to the end of this newsletter is message from WB Ron. Please read it over and respond to him about any questions you may have or if you are able to help out with this. We have our new Sponsorship Flyers also printed so be sure to stop by and pick a few up to take to your work or to businesses you frequent.
Points to Ponder over the summer:
How come you press harder on a remote when you know the batteries are dead?
- Why are they called APARTments when they are all stuck together?
- Why do people without a watch look at their wrist when you ask them what time it is?
- Why does sour cream have an expiration date?
- The light went out, but where to?
- Why do banks charge you a “non-sufficient funds fee” on money they already know you don’t have?
- If the universe is everything, and scientists say that the universe is expanding, what is it expanding into?
- When two airplanes almost collide why do they call it a near miss? It sounds like a near hit to me.
- How come abbreviated is such a long word?
- Why are there five syllables in the word “monosyllabic”?
- Why do they call it the Department of the Interior when they are in charge of everything outdoors?

MESSAGE FROM COMMUNITY DAY CHAIRMAN
Hello Brethren:
As some of you may know, Worshipful Master Brian has asked me to chair our fundraiser (fish fry) this year which will be held Friday and Saturday, September 24th and 25th. Friday evening 4-8PM will be the typical fish fry dinner with seating inside or under the tent outside. On Saturday we hope to make Millersville Lodge a destination point for the community by having a Millersville Community Day from 10AM to 8PM. This will be a festival atmosphere with great food, open outdoor market, live music, children’s activities, and open house for our historic building. The event will be well promoted in the community. We are hoping for a wonderful day of celebration and unity, not just for the growth of our Lodge, but for the community at large as well.
That being said please put these dates on your calendar and plan to commit for the year, at least these two days to your Lodge. Your participation and more importantly your assistance in making this a great event are most appreciated. This is way too much for just a few to pull off so the assistance of Brothers for a successful event is greatly needed in the following areas:
- Thursday afternoon/evening set-up.
- Tent Food Preparation –both days.
- Passing out sponsorship brochures – these will be available very soon.
- Parking – Mostly Sat.
- Open house guides – Sat.
- Millersville Lodge info table – Sat.
- Clean up – Sunday the 26th
- Help with Coordination of above areas.
I look forward receiving emails from the Brethren who are willing and able to help with this event in any of the above areas, so please contact there or call me. I will also have sign-up sheets at the Lodge for members to make their willingness to help known. Thank you, Brethren, and let’s have a great year.

Dear Brethren,
Once again, congratulations to our newest 50 year Award of Gold members, David Woods and Leonard Shirley. We had a very nice turnout for this ceremony and it was a privilege and honor to be able to present this award to two very deserving Brothers. I can only hope I am still around when I make it to the half century mark in Masonry, but if I am I will indeed be a very old man. We had several other Brothers reach this milestone last year and this year who for their own reasons chose not to receive their Award of Gold in a public ceremony. Congratulations to James Wottring, Fred Clift, Lawrence Lasek, Timothy Hunter, Milton Brooks, Robert Dalton, Jr. and Wayne Buckallew for also reaching the half century mark in Masonry. I apologize for a lack of pictures from this event as there was a miscommunication on my part for photos.
Coming up this Tuesday is our July Stated Meeting which will be our only Lodge meeting during the month of July as we will be going dark the next two months. The theme for the July Stated Meeting is Hawaiian shirt night so dig around for those flower print shirts or beach style shirts and come on out to Lodge for some fellowship. As an added treat, the Eastern Star ladies will be preparing the meal for us this coming Tuesday as kind of a make-up for us not having a dinner at installation. The only thing I know of the menu is it will be chicken salad sandwiches but what else will be a surprise.
A few other notes on our being dark after this meeting, there will also not be any Eastern Star Saturday breakfasts during July and August. Those will resume the first Saturday of September. Also, even though we are dark we still will have some activities that will spring up so keep an eye on your email for opportunities to get together with your Brothers during the summer at events outside of the Lodge.

That being said, please put these dates on your calendar and plan to commit for the year, at least these two days to your Lodge.
Fraternally,
Ron Featherston, PM

Dear Brethren,
We had a great presentation on the Indiana Freemason Museum and Library by PGM Mike Brumback. For those who were not able to attend in person we did record it and it is on both of our Facebook pages as well as on the Indiana Freemasons page. If you have never had the opportunity to visit our Grand Lodge Museum and Library I highly encourage it. This presentation only scratched the surface of what you can see and find down there. Here is also a link to the presentation:

Coming up this Tuesday we will be having another 50 Year Award of Gold Ceremony for two well deserving Brothers (David Woods and Leonard Shirley). This is a significant milestone in the life of a Mason and I encourage all to attend to show support for these Brothers who have given 50 years of their lives to Masonry. Just think about that number 50 for a while. Many of us haven’t even been alive for 50 years or worked a job for that long or even been married 50 years. So to dedicate yourself to something for that long of a time period is incredible. Hope to see a great turnout.
Quote of the Week:
“True friendship is like sound health; the value of it is seldom known until it is lost.”
Charles Caleb Colton
Cleric
I think many of us can relate to this. We take so much for granted in our lives and don’t truly grasp all that we have until we no longer have it. This can be said for our Brotherhood as well. Many have been part of other Lodges that are no longer around anymore. They have closed their doors or merged in with other Lodges. I have had many Brothers who don’t come regularly tell me they miss being at Lodge and around their Masonic Brothers. What are you waiting for? Come on back and be a part of something bigger than yourselves and reconnect with your Brothers.

Master’s Travels

Dear Brethren,
To all the Fathers out there I would like to wish you a very Happy Father’s Day. Whether your children are 2 or 4 legged or both, I hope you had a relaxing day filled with love and laughter and memories to cherish throughout your years. We had an excellent Degree last Tuesday and passed Brother Michael Redding to the Degree of a FellowCraft. It was another awesome turnout and we greatly appreciated the help in filling some chairs and covering the lectures for this degree. We truly are blessed here at Millersville to have so many knowledgeable Brothers able to assist when called upon. You really show what Masonry is all about.
This Tuesday we have another Masonic Education night. We will be having Past Grand Master Mike Brumback in attendance and he will be talking to us about the Indiana Masonic Museum and Library as well as Freemasons Hall. Be sure to mark your calendars and come out and pack the house on this evening and show some support for our Guest Speaker. I highly encourage all to attend and support the Lodge and our guest speaker on this night. I can tell you with only dinner and education that evening, you will be on your way home by 8:00pm at the latest and will be home before the sun goes down. We will be having Spaghetti for dinner and with our normal chef gone that evening, Brother Michael Clark has stepped up and volunteered to cook for us. So Guest Speaker and Guest Chef; hope to see a full house!
I know this is short notice in the newsletter but it was mentioned in announcements at dinner this past Tuesday. I along with a few other Brothers will be travelling to Hancock Lodge #101 on Monday, June 21 for a Master Mason Degree. Dinner will be at 6:00pm and Lodge is at 7:00pm. This travel will complete all our travel requirements for both Grand Lodge Travel Awards for the year, however, that does not mean we will stop travelling. After this we will be on the hunt for any traveling tools around the state and try to bring as many of them back to Millersville as possible. We will need a lot of Brothers willing to travel to make this happen as some of the traveling tools require up to 7 visiting Brothers in order to claim them.
Finally on the last Tuesday of the month we will be having another 50 Year Award of Gold Ceremony for two well deserving Brothers (David Woods and Leonard Shirley). This is a significant milestone in the life of a Mason and I encourage all to attend who can to show support for these Brothers who have given 50 years of their lives to Masonry.

Quote of the Week:
“I never considered a difference of opinion in politics, in religion, in philosophy, as cause for withdrawing from a friend.”
Thomas Jefferson
3rd President of the United States
Although President Jefferson was not a Mason, his words ring true. One of the reasons Religion and Politics are forbidden topics in Lodge is because they are two of the biggest dividers of men. Now more than ever do these topics illicit such nastiness and bitter words among men and cause such chaos. One only needs to look at social media to see evidences of that fact. We as Brothers need to rise above these petty issues and differences and embrace our Brothers. Choose your words carefully when posting on social media and understand that if a Brother disagrees with you it is ok. We all come from different backgrounds and walks of life and don’t all hold the exact same opinions on topics. It is ok to disagree in a civil manner and understand that at the end of the day, we are Brothers and are bound by a stronger bond.
